Very nice place. Just in the middle of nowhere. Cabs to and from town have to deal with a steep, dirt, bumpy, rock-filled road (one night we almost couldn't find it). And because of its isolation, not even able to walk around outside the 10-room facility. But the room, pool, staff, and included breakfasts were exceptional.

Hola Karen, usted acaba de llegar hace 2 horas. Entienda que el aire acondicionado cuando entran está apagado porque no sabemos a que hora van a llegar los huéspedes a realizar el check-in.Es cierto que hace mucho calor en Tamarindo, estamos a 40 grados y es lógico que tarde un poco más en enfriar.Sentimos la molestia.Pura Vida

The views were amazing! We woke up two mornings to 15 monkeys. They were so cute. The food was 5 stars. They have an amazing chef! The staff is so helpful and really get to know you. You feel right at home. The only thing we did not like about the area was the roads. Even with the roads being bad we would defiantly stay in this resort the next time we are in the area.

I’ll first start by saying this hotel is beautiful! The rooms, the view, the staff were all very delightful. Virginia was THE best from booking, arranging airport transfer, assisted with booking excursions as well as helped with locating an officiant. My only negative is the location. Kalokiari is situated in a very under developed area, about 10 mins from Tamarindo. Most of the drivers complained/were not enthused to service the location due to the road conditions where it’s located. I’ll say this, don’t stay here during the rainy season as I’m sure the roads are much worse than when dry. Overall, if you enjoy “privacy” (really seclusion), have some $$$ to spend, and want to wake up to a beautiful sunset via balcony, book it! The hotel offers free breakfast, they have good coffee and a chef on sight that prepares both a lunch and dinner for additional price (menus change daily). The water stayed hot, it was secured and staff remained accessible! We will definitely be back to see Kalokiari again! Pura Vida my friends!

Oh, where to start??! Pacific Kalokairi provides hospitality at the very highest level. We had such a fabulous experience. The staff is wonderfully friendly. It was like having a private concierge and private chef. They took care of everything we needed, from excursions to taxis to towels and shuttles, immediately and without hesitation. The rooms are gorgeous. The breakfasts and dinners were beyond delicious. The entire experience was warm, welcoming and friendly. Not at all pretentious or precious. We felt so comfortable with everyone there. It was unlike any vacation we’d ever taken before. On our last morning we had about 7-8 howler monkeys in the trees outside our room - what a treat to see them up close, like being in a game preserve. Also, we must mention we adored being greeted by Charley, the gentle giant black lab. There’s so much love at Pacific Kalokairi- we highly recommend vacationing in Costa Rica and staying there.

This beautiful property is located in the hills above Tamarindo with an amazing view of the ocean. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The guest accommodations are modern, spacious and private. We loved listening to the birds and the Howler monkeys and just enjoying the awesome view from our room. Relaxing poolside and cooling off in the infinity pool was a treat. Peaceful, quiet, elegant...Pacific Kalokairi is a sanctuary in this area. Highly recommended!

Booked this place without knowing the geography of Tamarindo too well. Tamarindo in a busy little town, and I really enjoyed being a short distance from it at Kalokairi. It’s a short walk from town in the hills. The view of the coast is stunning. The rooms are beautiful, and the staff is extremely kind. Only good things to say for this experience.

What an amazing hotel! We felt like we were staying in a fancy bungalow on our family’s property. The family who own and run this business truly put their hearts and souls into making the space beautiful, clean and peaceful. The salt water infinity pool is perfect. There were days where we were the only guests who weren’t off on an adventure, so we had the pool (and bar) to ourselves. The food and drinks were excellent. Quality that you would get at a 5 star resort or restaurant. The (free/included) shuttle goes down to Tamarindo 4 times a day- 10AM, 3PM, 6PM and 9PM. If you want to go to town at different times , the hotel calls a taxi for you. The taxi is a short 5-10 min drive, and costs ~$12USD. Highlights: - service/staff; kind humans making sure you have everything you need - Charlie/Charley (sp?) , the family/ resort dog , who is such a good boy - Location- close to town (2kms), but in the jungle. Ocean view from the pool and balcony

My wife and I enjoy traveling and staying at places that are clean, scenic, and safe. This place exceeded our expectations. We stayed for a total of 4 nights. Virginia is very responsive through WhatsApp and answered our questions prior to and during our stay. She is kind and very friendly. We didn’t rent a car so we depended on the hotel shuttle to get to the city. If the times do not align with your plan for the day Virginia/her family can set up taxis to pick you up from a specific location to the hotel or vice versa. Which brings me to my only complaint - we were told by the hotel that it was $10 flat rate to the drop off point in the city. However there were two times where we were overcharged by the taxi driver. The rate has nothing to do with the stay itself/the hotel, but it was frustrating that there seemed to be a miscommunication between the taxi drivers and the hotel, which resulted in inaccurate information being conveyed to us. It wasn’t about the money, but rather the fact that we were thrown off about the cost. Otherwise, fantastic hotel and incredible service. Would highly recommend!

The first word that comes to mind is exemplary. Virginia, and her family along with Marco provided the most excellent first experience in Costa Rica. From the moment I touched down till sendoff nine days later, I felt as if I was a guest in their home. The rooms and the views provided the much needed relaxation along with the amenities on the property(ie: cold plunge/ hot tub) I will always recommend to any friends and family the Pacific Kalokairi when they visit Tamarindo Costa Rica. The owners are wonderful and always available to make sure you’re comfortable. They get to understand the nuances of each guest, truly wanting you to have a memorable and beautiful stay. The setting is gorgeous, the rooms completely private and the array of things to do outstanding. My partner and I walked into town each morning, which was magical. We cannot wait to return. The property is uniquely and beautifully designed. The staffs are super helpful and friendly. Wish the roads leading to the property from town center was walkable. More food options at the property would have been even better. Would have liked a hammock at the room balcony. Overall loved my stay and would definitely return again.

From Liberia Airport via a transfer arranged by the resort, I arrived at Pacific Kalokairi in dire need of relaxation. I was greeted warmly and shown to my gorgeous suite where I watched an incredible sunset over the ocean…the first of many. Thanks to my gracious hosts I was able to book a 2 hour massage and then spent many peaceful hours at the pool. I enjoyed delicious meals dining by the pool and/or having them delivered to my room. When I was rested and ready to go town a short drive away, they offered a shuttle service at specific times or arranged a taxi if I wanted to go or return at another time. As a family run establishment, they make you feel incredibly welcome like family, including their black lab Charlie! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone!

Wonderful experience! My husband and I have been to Tamarindo many times, but this was our first time staying at Pacific Kalokairi. The personal attention we received and overall attentiveness of the staff was truly exceptional. Virginia and Sylvia took excellent care of us and made sure we took advantage of local hidden gems and several lesser-known beaches and attractions. The private bungalows were very nice, beds were comfortable and the view from our room and balcony was stunning. We watched spectacular sunsets from our balcony every evening and enjoyed a daily swim in the infinity pool, which offers a panoramic view of the ocean. Our room was kept immaculate by the cleaning service, and the small fridge and coffee maker provided were welcome accommodations. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the week we spent at Pacific Kalokairi and would highly recommend it to other travelers seeking to explore Tamarindo. This retreat offers a quiet, peaceful atmosphere with regular glimpses of monkeys and other wildlife, yet it’s only a few minutes from downtown Tamarindo’s shops, restaurants and beaches. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss on your next trip to Costa Rica.

Amazing property! Amazing experience!
Our 4 night stay at Pacific Kalokairi was nothing short of exceptional! For the final leg of our Costa Rica trip we stayed at Pacific Kalokairi just outside of Tamarindo. The access road was pretty straightforward compared to other such roads in Costa Rica. The last 100m or so is a steep climb, but totally paved.. no big deal. The property is fully gated so when you arive, hit the buzzer and one of the staff will open the main gate. Parking is a breeze. The grounds here are immaculate. The pool area where breakfast is served is gorgeous. The Infinity pool over looks the town of Tamarindo and the ocean in the distance. The rooms .. wow ! Perfect size for a king suite. Each is its own villa with all of the luxury touches your expect from a high end spot. We booked an ocean view room so the balcony overlooks the pool and had amazing sunsets every night. The staff are really what makes Pacific Kalokairi special. Everyone really cares about the guest experience and treats you like a member of the family. Charlie the resident black lab is such a good boy too! We booked an excursion and a coue of massages through the property .. all seemless I've stayed at hundreds of differt hotels and propertys over the years and Pacific Kalokairi ranks up there will the best of the best. After 4 days we didn't want to leave! When we checked out we took a few extra minutes to say goodbye to everyone .. it just felt so much like home Thank you for an outstanding experiance! I hope we get

Best Villa Getaway!
We have done trips to Hawaii, Belize, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and other beach locations, and Pacific Kalokairi is bar none, head and shoulders above them all. The accommodations are meticulously cared for, thoughtfully and beautifully designed, and kept to a pristine cleanliness. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a mini fridge in the room which wasn’t mentioned in the listing. The location is perfect offering the most stunning view of the Costa Rican countryside and beach, located close to town but in a tranquil setting outside the hustle and bustle of town. The service is exemplary by the family, characteristic of only the most expensive 5-star resorts. They are there to attend to your every need, going above and beyond at every opportunity. Based on others’ reviews, we rented a large SUV to handle the Costa Rican roads, and did just fine. Definitely recommend an SUV with 4-wheel drive. We already miss the sounds of the monkeys and birds. What are you waiting for, book it! You’re in for a real treat!

Surrounded by nature and it was a very relaxing place to return to after a day off of the property. Beautiful modern architecture. Nice view of the sunset and forest. I would not go to this property without a car to get out during the day for excursions. Shuttle service to tamarindo is included at a couple of different times throughout the day( included in the cost). Friendly and accommodating staff. Friendly family dog Charly (black lab) was lovely to have around. No umbrellas for shade around the pool during the day. Plastic straws used. Bugs in the room and in our bed the first night but they fumigated and sprayed raid which got rid of them.

Hi Michael, thank you so much for your review! We do not have umbrellas by the pool area because here in Costa Rica the weather can be extreme so we do not have umbrellas because of the windy days or the storms, but we have an area near to the spa with shade. In a place surrounded by nature sometimes it is normal to find bugs, the first night you asked about ant traps because you have some ants on the floor and we fumigated with a spray to solve your problem. About the straws, we do not use plastic straws, we use biodegradable and 100% compostable straws, they look like plastic but are not, we use straw panda if you want to check it. Have a nice trip and Pura Vida! Thanks again!

This was one of the best places we have stayed, just out of the way of town but still so close. The rooms were wonderful and the staff even better. Had awesome ocean views with jungle background. Charley the dog was a love and had some monkeys visit in the trees. Breakfast included was good. Nothing bad to say about this wonderful place.

Like the place for a great price
Nice location and views. The road to get there is grave only. Not suitable road to walk You need transportation for in and out It’s a family style friendly, modern and clean

This hotel was amazing! The rooms and facility overall are fantastic, but the real difference was made by the staff. Virginia and her family made you feel like you were in their home and couldn't have been more accommodating. We were traveling with a group of 10 so we took up most rooms. From providing recommendations in town, setting up day trips, arranging our covid tests and our airport transportation – the staff was AMAZING! The hotel is off the beaten path, but not far at all from town. You’ll feel like you’re in your own jungle with all the conveniences of a local beach trip. We’d absolutely go back and I plan to tell anyone I know heading to Tamarindo about this amazing hidden gem.

The level of attentiveness of the staff at Pacific Kalokairi was beyond excellent. Although location and amenities are important when selecting a hotel, I am always looking to see what else makes a place special. I can say without a doubt that their attention to the "little things" makes this hotel 5 stars in my opinion. An example of the little things: There were 2 days when we needed to leave the property before breakfast was served so that we could go on tours and Virginia actually packed us a "to go" breakfast and brought it to our room the night before so that we wouldn't be hungry the next morning. I cannot express how much Virigina, Sylvia, Maria and Santi made us feel like we were visiting their home as opposed to staying at a hotel. From restaurant recommendations to making breakfast and everything in between, they were helpful, friendly and just conscientious of all of their guests' needs. If you are looking for a small, intimate place to stay while in Tamarindo, this is definitely the place. And they have a dog... Charly, who was the cherry on top of our sundae :)_He is the sweetest boy you will ever meet.

Shame on management First totally unsafe to get to I explained manager of the location so remote which even with my 4x4 was almost impossible to reach They clearly stated the reservation will be released and not charged Please do not believe then since I was still charge for 2 nights and didn’t stay even 1 min because you cannot get to it Do yourself a favor and don’t support locations it owners who lie at your face to achieves few hundreds dollars Not the way to conduct business

Do not blame on us if you wanted to stay closer to downtown and didn’t check what you were booking. You arrived to our place and wanted to cancel right before the check in, so we explained that your payment couldn’t be refundable because you booked through Expedia, whose website clearly explains our no-show and cancellation policy when you book through their website. You left our place saying that you will solve it with Expedia, therefore exempting us from any further complain. Don’t call us liars if you don’t do things properly, don’t check what you book and what the cancellations policies are. It is not our fault that you decided to cancel your stay the same day of your arrival

Truly amazing — best service and design
Truly an amazing experience, especially the service. The staff here were so helpful and friendly, probably more than any of the other hundred hotels I’ve stayed at. The location feels like you’re in the remote nature but is only a 10 minute drive from downtown. The amenities and design are all great as well!

Such a magical space with views of both the jungle and the ocean. Ocean is amazing for sunsets and late night moon gazing. Jungle is amazing for spectacular sunrises and early night moon gazing. I would come back here again.

A peaceful escape
Peaceful, relaxing, clean, new, quiet (except for the howler monkeys in the distance) and run by the nicest family that goes out of their way to be helpful. Not a party place. Tough dirt road, about 10 min from town. And, loved Charlie the Lab to have coffee with in the morning.
