hafuma new years tradition
Hafuma is our new home away from home! This is our second NYE in a row and we're hoping to make a tradition of it. It's cozy and quirky and the perfect place for our group of childhood friends scattered around the globe to converge in celebration of a new beginning. Jeff is an awesome, communicative, and hospitable host, and the upgrades they've made since our last time there have made it an even more accommodating space. We love Hafuma!

The only thing more wild than this property - is the owner. I'll start with the good stuff: huge property, lots of space, house has character and lots to do. And now the bad...We contacted the owner a couple of weeks in advance and asked him if we could have a low-key rehearsal dinner - approximately 20 people - and he said yes. Awesome! That night on our way to the house we passed by the maintenance man - who waved hello. We were in the middle of a beautiful moment with our daughter, her friends and family when the phone rang. It was the owner and he was HOT! He wanted to know how many people were there, why they were there and threatened to cancel the reservation and call the police. We reminded him that we had emailed him about the get-together and he had approved it. He said: yes, you did! And then proceeded to accuse us of doing burn-outs around the property and use language that would shock Madonna. It being the night before our daughter's wedding - my husband decided to be like Elsa and let it go. The maintenance man said he would talk to the owner because he knew we hadn't done burn-outs - he watched us all drive in. Fantastic. Long story short - the owner never apologized for being wrong not once but twice. In fact, when we tried to talk to him about his tirade - he doubled down and said: it's all behind us. Cool. So...book this rental for the spacious accommodations and get a hot-headed, belligerent owner for free.

Well, not sure what say. There should not be a reason for me to call you at all other than to check in to see how things were. However, I received a call and a text from our neighbor that said someone came up their driveway and did a burnout in their driveway. He also said there were 15 cars, up to 30 people at our house. We have a lot of water on and around our property. There have been occasions where people drink too much and things get out of hand. We did agree to to a small function but not 30 and not people possible intoxicated driving recklessly. That was the purpose of my call. I too was at an event and the last thing I needed was to have people driving through our field and into the pond. You as a guest you are responsible for the actions of people you bring on property. My call to you was to alert you of the actions of your guest. I said if things get out of hand we can terminate your reservation as if this was your property, you would do the same. We spoke for a minimum of 5 minutes on the Saturday after your reservation was over. I suggest checking our reviews and you will see that I'm a great host and very easy to get along with.

Great Family stay!
Wonderful long weekend with my family. Pool and house were beyond our expectations! Game room is alot of fun and the swim up bar and hot tub area were a treat! Would definitely stay again!

Family Getaway

Fun getaway with privacy, wildlife and plenty of space.
We loved staying here. The pool and hot tub combo design is beautiful and excellent at all times of the day. There is shade if you need it, but plenty of sun for those who want it. At night, as it cools down, there is a gorgeous view of the night sky from the hot tub. The house is expansive and comfy with lots of areas to lounge and congregate. We'll be back!

Absolute Gem
This place is so beautiful and relaxing. The pool is great. The views are spectacular. All the deck spaces, along with multiple outdoor seating areas, make chasing around the shade easy. And omg the kittens were the best part! We highly recommend this property. It is a cherished home that has been well loved and it shows. Very sad to leave.

Secluded getaway
We enjoyed all that the property had to offer, but it is a bit of a drive to get to activities and sights to see. We didn't mind the drive, but for younger guests the travel time got to be a little much, so it all depends on what you're looking to do when you stay! We enjoyed many days poolside, soaking up the sun and watching the cows in the pasture.

Fun family home away from home
Loved this home! Very spacious for our large family. The pool and jacuzzi was a huge hit and perfect! The house has a family feel and was perfect for our needs. The owner of the home was very quick to respond to our questions/needs before and during our stay. Highly recommend it!

Great spot for families
This was a great spot for our family to get away from LA and experience the outdoors. Sadly the National Park was closed due to the recent rain but we were able to enjoy going into the town of Springville and walking the ranch.

magical time warp
what a special place! located in gorgeous rolling foothills of the sierras, Hafuma ranch is a gem. The current owners have preserved the very intentional design choices their parents made in the early 80s - from the ornate metallic wallpaper in every room to the baby blue toilet to the plush wall to wall carpeting. If you're looking for something modern, sleek, and boring, keep looking; this place has too much soul for you. If you looking for somewhere memorable with sweeping views of the surrounding landscape and tons of opportunities for fun (paddle tennis, billiards, swimming, hot tub), then look no further. A big group of old friends (10 of us) met up here to celebrate the new year and we couldn't have imagined a better place for it. Spacious, comfortable, funky, and fun. We definitely hope to return to Hafuma.

Serenity & Tranquility
The property is so expansive and the amenities are many! We didn’t have a chance to really enjoy the home to the fullest because we were there in town for a wedding so really all we got to do was sleep there! The home is dated for the 80’s but there’s a very good reason for that! All in all I plan to bring my family back so we can REALLY enjoy the splendor and amenities of the home!

A really great stay with super nice hosts
Not only is this place great, but it is clear that the hosts love this place and want to share all that makes it great with the guest. Yes, it is dated, but that is really what gives it its charm. The game room was a blast for kids and adults. We were able to catch some fun and lively bluegill from the stocked pond with my fly rod. The views are great and only a short drive to see the sequoias. I would hightly recommend this place, and would go there again for sure.

Great for Families
Celebrated my 50th with my kids and grandkids and couldn’t ask for a better place. Accommodated the 10 of us, different ages and everyone had a blast. Pool was great, game room and of course the view. House was clean. Host was responsive and very accommodating. Look forward to coming back. Thank you!

We had a great time. Quiet, great views, great windows-- 3 of us were 80 yrs old and above and the big stepdown shower was not conducive to our age. bed in basement not suitablie for adults

Thanks Alice..sorry about the Roman Tub. Definitely thoughts going forward. The Game room (not a basement) is real good for younger ones. We normally max out at 8 but can do more when necessary. Thanks for being a great guest.

Over priced for what you get. One shower didn’t work and the drain was plugged in the other one. Lots of furniture was broken. There was a nail sticking out from a couch which scratched my grand daughter, broken lamps and shades, mattresses all need to be replaced including a broken box spring, making that bed impossible to use. Very dirty over all. The kitchen sponge provided was extremely old, (that is unacceptable at anytime let alone during COVID) bedding and carpet dirty and full of stains. The Jacuzzi didn’t work. We spent hours trying to get the heater to work. This was a huge disappointment for our kids. My phone call to the owner only resulted in more frustration as he was unable to resolve the issue, even shifted the blame to me for not checking out the conditions of everything upon our arrival. The ring cameras at every entrance to the home obviously are monitored live including sound, or it was quite the coincidence that while we were leaving and complaining to each other about the conditions of the home, the owner messaged me and offered a $75 refund because we couldn’t get the jacuzzi to work. $75 back on a 4 night stay that was $2800.00.?? We owned a VRBO in Montana for many years and stay in VRBOs often. I grew up in Springville and know the area. This time of year that area is so beautiful. I also know that the homes are older. There is a difference in a home being older and one that is unkept. Sadly, we were very disappointed.

The house is as it advertises, as everyone else said, dated. Definitely circa 1980s. The pool was fantastic! Crystal clear warm water! The location is further from Sequoia than we would have liked, but that was our fault for not researching more. 28 miles (as the crow flies) actually equates to over two hours drive time. Just do your mapping before renting. If you are cool with this location, then it’s a good house PS the oven has been updated. No longer the yellow ones, but new modern double oven that worked great!!

Perfect getaway!
Our group of 10 had a wonderful time! We had 5 kids ranging from 1-16 years old- there was plenty to do for everyone. Their favorite part was hands down, the swim up bar. My favorite part, was enjoying the beautiful country side when they were all fast asleep. Thank you Jeff!

Great Place to Rest and Rejuvenate
Location was tranquil, soothing and peaceful. Loved the pool, hot tub and tennis courts. Yes, it is very dated, but if you look past the decor, you will find the space and amenities needed to enjoy a relaxing getaway. Was able to visit the Sequoias, Breweries and short excursions all from this location. Definitely recommend.

Peaceful Ranch living
We loved the Hafuma ranch. It is in a rural area surrounded by small ranches. The views are great from the living room. Yes the decor and furniiture are dated but in good condition and clean. We would hike in the morning and play in the pool and hot tub in the afternoon. The house has some quirks but Jeff the manager is amazingly fast (like a minute) to respond to texts or emails and was great and super helpful. I loved to walk around the neighborhood in the morning. You know you are in a rural area when people slow down and wave to you in the morning. If you find the llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, and cemetery you have explored the area fully. The fire pit is great but be careful when you start it up otherwise you will not have much facial hair for your vacation. Super quiet and peaceful. Lots of room to spread out. Great for families with older kids or 2 small families to get away. We would love to go back.

Best Anniversary Getaway
WOW! We really loved staying at Hafuma Ranch. My family made so many memories. This is a great getaway for a family to enjoy nature and outdoor fun. Jeff was an awesome host and was very responsive to every inquiry we had. The home was very comfortable, and it has everything you need. The pool and the jacuzzi were a great addition to our experience. We basically stayed all day in the pool. The views are AMAZING! The home is a little outdated, but it definitely has that 80's retro feel. Everywhere you look you see such beauty. It was really nice to escape the day to day, relax and enjoy the time with your family. I HIGHLY recommend staying at Hafuma Ranch!

Dream Family Week
We loved everything about HAFUMA! The property was perfect for what we were looking for during quarantine: privacy, plenty of space, and so many fun activities! The game room, pool w/ diving board, feeding cows, fishing (my 12 & 9 year olds caught & returned 3!), Paddle Tennis, driving distance to the Sequoias, watching the geese fly every night at sunset...it was all such a dream! The decor is like stepping back in time! The wallpaper, fixtures, furniture - we found it incredibly charming! Perfect for family board games & hide and seek. Some fixtures were identical to my grandparents house when I was a child ❤️ The only issue we had with the vintage house was the old oven which was not easy to bake in. Easily forgivable. It is worth mentioning that the owner, Jeff, was a wonderful host! He called our first night to ask if we needed anything & recommended we gather on the side deck to watch the sunset. It was very thoughtful! We look forward to returning again!

Breath of Fresh Air
After working from home and supporting our two young children with "distance learning" for three months, we desperately needed a break from screens and to reconnect with the outdoors. We enjoyed lounging and swimming in the pool, eating dinner on the patio, and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. The kids loved seeing the cows and walking around the property grounds. We drove up early one day to Sequoia National Park to hike, which I recommend. Although, there was plenty to keep our family occupied on the ranch. We were only there for a few days, but it felt like we were on vacation for an entire month. We hope to return there with more of our family in the future.

Beautiful location!
The views at this ranch house are absolutely amazing. It was very peaceful and relaxing here. The kids loved swimming in the pool and fishing in the pond although I believe the pond is being drained right now because of the extreme algae problem. We fished about 25 min away and caught little trout. Keep in mind the house is a bit outdated but it is very comfortable and pet friendly too.

Our sanctuary..

Our sanctuary..
This experience has been the best in all of my life. I’ve never felt so comfortable and stressed free in all of my life. This is the third time we stay here with our family and our bond gets stronger each time because we are in such a beautiful place. My daughter is in love with all of the cows on the property and takes so many pictures of them. There’s so much to do that everyone can enjoy. Awesome Family Vacation House
Our extended family had a fabulous time here. The location is great, lots of privacy and an abundance of nature to explore in the area. A great place to stay if you are exploring Sequoia National Park. The town is small but has a store and a few restaurants including a burger place and Mexican food. Nice to have a pool and spa. My favorite part was the tarantula that came to visit us. Don't worry, it was outside! Very cool!

Fun Family getaway
We had a lovely extended weekend at the property. Everything was as described and the house was perfect for our needs. We have 4 kids aged 7-11 and they all had a blast. My one and only "wish" is that they would take care of the pond. We tried fishing but it is very difficult due to the thick algae that is on top of the pond so that was a little bit of a bummer since the kids were looking forward to it. Other than that it was a great location and wonderful property. Thanks so much!

Would stay again!
What a fun place to stay! Swimming, bbqing, billards, tennis, sunsets, stars, cows - this place didn't disappoint! My friends and I take an annual Girls' Trip, and we had so much fun at this house! It was a quick drive to Sequoia National Park, and a nice private getaway from busy lives. A couple of recs for the owner- sharpen the knives (we love to cook, but the knives were very dull), be sure all of the nails and boards on the deck are nailed down, and if at all possible, consider softer beds. All in all, it was a cool place, well-equipped, and offered tons to do! Thank you!

Warning! You have to be able to see through tree
We been to Springville a few times so we know what to expect in this nice little town Springville before the National Park and I even name my number 6 daughter as Sequoia. Anyway, I will just do points form to list out the facts. 1. Combination of Key Box at front door is incorrect from the Check In instruction, so we use alternative Check in Side Garage Door. Which is complete dark at night so it wasn't easy. 2. I guess no one check the property before we arrive to welcome us. One of the hot water heaters short circuited sometime ago so we have no hot water for couple of hours. Upon having hot water, there dust coming out from tap so I suppose owner need to do better job doing maintains. 3. More than dozen of lights in the house doesn’t work so please expect a nice romanic dimming house at night. It is not well maintains. 4. House is full of mirrors so it could be fun or creepy. 5. Bathtub at master is very slippery due to there is an opening on ceiling for direct sunlight design so moss could easily develop. Suppose a good idea if property is well maintains. 6. As it is Springville we kind of expect we need to cook home most of the times so we prepared quite a bit of food to cook however the kitchen is a 80s kitchen appliance. Hot coil Stove, old fridge, old style oven, a broken disk water. I don’t think it is well maintains. 7. Pools was all with dusts, leafs and branches and I suppose it was not clean up before we arrives. So not well maintains. I would like to skip the points about the beds, carpet, sheets, tennis courts, pond, and stuffs as I don’t want to make it an essay. Expectation and experience was quite bad so we check out with Jeff about it next morning and this is what we get. "Yes the house is dated and well maintained. The property is booked every week and has been for years. Honestly your concerns with respect to our water invalid. It’s a shame that you can’t see the first through the trees.” We can do nothing but leave the property ASAP and we moved to Hanford. Been 5 years Vacation Rental customer this is my first disappointment. Property for sure is dated and for sure not well maintain. Also, all the phone numbers that is listed as Jeff on web/instruction or the in house manual doesn’t go to Jeff. I have to work on the Cleaner Doreen to get Jeff number to talk to him. Family trip to the Sequoia Forest
Dated but homey. THe. Lack of internet thru out the home was frustrating, Only cell service for ATT was a complication as my family had business to conduct and had no service. The sleeper sofas in the basement could have been better. The ambiance was pretty. Weather did not permit the use of the pool, but that would have been great. The basement is an excellent party room just not a bedroom.

Mother's Day Weekend 2019
This has become a Sawyer Family tradition to enjoy the hospitality the Mark's family offer at Hafuma Ranch. This year we celebrated my Father's 99 birthday there. You walk in the house and get the feel of a well loved home. The views from the windows in the living room are just spectacular, and we were lucky to watch a lightning storm over the mountains this year. We used the jacuzzi and pool, someday I'll use the tennis court! The cows are always fun to watch, but be gentle when they come up to drink from the water tank, they just want a drink but aren't too sure about these people! :-) Thanks again to the Mark's, we hope to be back next year for my Dad's 100 birthday! Fun in the country
This was the perfect get away for our family of 8. There was plenty of room in this rambling home. The view of the lush greeen countryside from all the windows was beautiful. There was so much to do from swimming, and relaxing in the jacuzzi to playing pool to evenings spent on the lighted paddle tennis court. My husband and grandgirls spent many hours fishing in the pond and the rest of us spent many hours playing games on the deck. Hoping to return again. We loved Hafuma Ranch.

Awesome Family and Friends Getaway
Hafuma Ranch is set on a piece of land that was much more beautiful than any of us expected. The many amenities of the property were perfect for a low key Bachelor party. Jeff is a great host and was very responsive and extremely accommodating. The property was clean and welcoming. We liked that it is close enough to town that its not a huge burden to go run and grab something while being far enough away that you feel as if you are way off in the country. There are also plenty of outdoor activities nearby and places we would like to come back and explore. The awesome art deco look and feel of the house gave it an old school rich feel. As I explored the property I could feel the countless wonderful memories that Jeff and his family have logged here through the years. The views from the rooms in the house and the patios are stunning. The spiral staircase and underground tunnel to the game room and pool house is very cool and was a nice way to get between the two in the cold evenings. The kitchen is well appointed with everything we needed to prepare and enjoy a few amazing meals. During our stay we enjoyed playing pool and other games, hanging out late by the firepit under a million stars, and soaking in the hot tub. Everyone in our party loved the place and we couldn't stop talking about planning a longer return trip in the summer to make use of the pool and to fully utilize all that Hafuma Ranch has to offer. Thanks Jeff for opening your family's home away from home to us we can't wait to return!
