great family vacation
My family and I all meet here from around the country for a family vacation. It was perfect. The property owner was great. There was a power outage during our stay and the generator didn't kick on. They came to the property in no time and got it up and running. The power came back on later in the night. Over all everyone had a great stay. My nephew enjoyed the arcade in the finished basement. My parents liked that there was a bathroom on the main floor (no stairs after a day of adventures), my husband and i loved the master with the large soaking tub. Everyone love how comfortable the beds were. over all I'd give this property a 10 out of 10.

Staycation in the Hills
We did a staycation in the beautiful Black Hills & everyone loved the Castle! Rich & Susan were very prompt with any questions & communication we had. The kitchen was huge & very well stocked for all the items we needed for meals each night. We loved the outdoor deck area. It was perfect for early morning gatherings & evening yard games. We did the Stratobowl hike which was 10 minutes away & went to Hill City to bike on the Mickelson trail which was a 15-20 minute drive. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Gaslight in Rockerville, which was 5 minutes away. Very pleased with our staycation!

Very nice home and great location
The home was clean and well stocked with everything needed to enjoy our visit. The game room was a lot of fun. The two rooms on each of the three floors gave our family enough room to enjoy separate activities.

Castle
Rooms were clean and very roomy. The castle was close to the attractions we were interested in and very easy to find. We had some deer walk right through the yard while we were there. My son really liked that! Would definitely stay here again.

Brothers Vacation with Families
Our stay at the Castle house was wonderful. The accommodations were just what we needed. The basement area was great for the kids to hang out, play some nostalgic video games with the older kids (parents), watch a movie and relax after a long day of activities. The rest of the house was equally as nice. The bedrooms were just what we needed and the bathrooms were very clean and updated. I loved the castle-like hardware on all of the doors. It's definitely a unique house and fun to stay at. The location was fairly central for drives to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, the Badlands, etc. We didn't need to contact the hosts for anything, because everything that we needed was already provided. The host did reach out to us before our arrival and afterward to make sure we were taken care of which was very much appreciated. If were ever in the area again, I would love to stay there again. I will be mentioning it as an option for others that I know who may be making there way out west to see what South Dakota has to offer. Thank you Rich and Susan for allowing us to stay in your magical castle.

Rockerville Castle rocks!
We loved our stay at the Castle in Rockerville! What a wonderful house and location close to all of the best sites in western South Dakota. Mount Rushmore, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Jewel National Monument Cave, and more is close at hand. The house is appointed exactly as described in the listing. Working with the owners is easy and pleasant. The property is a perfect balance of remote wilderness with backyard privacy and deer roaming in the morning or evening, while also comfortably close to what's needed. I would have happily stayed here longer. We loved our South Dakota adventure, and the Rockerville Castle was a perfect part of it.

Awesome Time!
We had a fabulous time at your home. It was truly perfect in every way!! The space was perfect for our friend group, and the driveway and garage was awesome for the motorcycles. The only little thing, the master bedroom is actually on the 2nd floor. Not a big thing but just wanted to mention if anyone can't go up the stairs for that bedroom. Appreciated all of your suggestions for dining, we tried out several that were just yummy. Thank you also for being so responsive to our pre-trip questions also, it really helped to set us up for success. Look forward to another stay sometime. Thank you again!

Stay at the castle
Great location. All as described. No problems so did not need to communicate with property manager during our stay. A lot of room to spread out. 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms was perfect for 3 families. Large back patio was great for visiting and playing games in the evening. Well- furnished and clean.

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL
4 siblings & 3 spouses (most retirement age) enjoyed a vaca in the Black Hills. The Enchanted Castle easily accomodated us all with room to spare. It was most adequately furnished and very clean. Big rooms, kitchen well furnished & spacious patio outside. Great location too. Cannot think of 1 thing to say that is unfavorable! I highly recommend this VRBO.

The Castle was Magical!
I knew the Castle was going to be special but it was so much more than that! The owners were friendly and communicative and helpful and to me, that's everything. The location was beautiful - private but not isolated, with a beautiful patio and a stairway leading to a sitting area on the hillside. Our grandchildren ran those stairs a hundred times! Ha! Then they went inside and slid down the stairs to the basement on their heinies a thousand times! The Castle is decorated beautifully, was spotless and had everything we could possibly have needed to make our stay memorable. Our bedding and bath linens were soft and comfy and I found myself wishing I had more time to nap. (The higher altitudes were a bit of an issue for me.) We highly recommend the Castle and it's owners! Would one-hundred percent stay again and again!

Locked Out
The Property Manager gave the wrong entry code in the VRBO App so we had no access to the house trying the code over and over. Called the manager and he said "He forgot he changed it." Went to use the fire pit and no propane so had to go out and buy a tank and had a hard time messing with it to actually get it going. One of our guys fixed it. The grill was caked with bbq and had to be cleaned the burners were caked up and clogged the flames shot up almost burning my husband to be. Be careful on the stairwell they are small carpeted and dangerous for older people to walk down. I was hit with ridiculous fees in check out with rude remarks when I paid in advance for a cleaning service, they exaggerated the time we left which wasn't at 10 more like 10:45 sorry just was married. No alarm clocks or clocks, TV's are limited, so are showers. There was a man on the slope of the hill staring down at the house it scared me, no house phones to call 911 so make sure your phones are charged up. It's nice but the beds are dated and uncomfortable. I will never want to ever stay there after the way the wife spoke to me and the husband, I had to dispute ridiculous charges and I did settle for a less amount because a dog did come in and no pets allowed. Lastly, if you are wanting to be paid a cleaning charge up front then don't complain about the cups we placed in the sink.

Thank you for not wanting to rent our place again. I dread the thought of it, and it's unfortunate that these types of things happen sometimes with VRBO. The code was correct in the app - you didn't bother to login and check. And a simple phone call from you corrected that situation. We charged you extra for the two sets of queen sheets that you ruined and to have the carpets professionally cleaned because you brought a dog into our house! We were trying to be nice so we didn't charge you for the extra cleaning, the glitter all over the house, nor the late check out. For the record, when the cleaning crew arrived at 10am for a same-day cleaning, not only were you still there but you all were still fast asleep in bed. We've rented vacation homes for over 20 years, and we've never had guests be so inconsiderate and disrespectful of one of our homes. Glad you enjoyed your wedding, but you didn't leave until after noon, so we're a little confused by your "10:45 sorry" comment. For two hours the cleaning crew had to walk around your guests while you were passed out in your truck and your guests slowly packed up with no sense or urgency. It was the most awkward and disrespectful situation I've ever seen with a VRBO, so you will have to accept my apology if we came across as rude. To be clear, you happily agreed to pay for the "ridiculous" damages and apologized nicely at the time. Not sure what happened between now and when you wrote this, but in the future I would recommend a hotel. There is a certain respect and understanding when using VRBO or Airbnb to rent someone else's home, and not everybody appreciates or understands that.

Perfect Stay
The castle is a beautiful place to stay while in the Rapid City area. It's perfect location makes it a quick drive to all the wonderful sites. The home was clean and had all the amenities of home, including comfy beds! The Ms. Pac Man arcade game was a huge hit with our 80's crew! The owners have done a great job anticipating and meeting any need one might have away from home. They were incredibly responsive to all questions! Our visit to South Dakota was a memorable one!

Perfect for family reunion!
Loved this place. We had a family group of 10 adults. The 5 bedrooms and bed arrangement were perfect, though if you are in the upstairs bedrooms that has 3 beds, you need to either share the same-floor bathroom that is inside the master suite, or use a bathroom on the main or lower level. We love to cook, so the large well-equipped kitchen, gas grill, 2 large tables, and outdoor patio with tables, chairs, and propane fire pit were great for food prep, feasting, and kicking back. We regularly hiked up the hill, hopped the fence, and ran/walked a 3-4 mile loop before dinner (caution: use a trail app like Alltrails since it is easy to get confused on the trails). The castle location was good for easy access to many things including airport (to pick up family who flew in), Hill City (esp. Black Hills Institute and Quilt Show), Needles Highway, Mt. Rushmore, and loads of hikes. Krull Market in Hill City has a good selection of groceries, fresh meat and fruits/veg if you are into cooking, but Walmart in Rapid City is a tad closer. We bought fresh bison meat at Wild Idea in Rapid City - pricy but a fun and appropriate treat for the Black Hills. We had a couple of very minor issues with the house (coffee pot wasn't working well, small leak near sink, and there were no small cutting boards), but within an hour of contacting the owner, he was at the house to resolve everything - including bringing a new coffee pot and new cutting board. The property is quiet and private. The furnishings, bedding, and equipment were high end . Worth the price. We would stay again.

The best VRBO experience I’ve had so far!
The owners of this property are amazing! Our flight arrived early, and they allowed us to drop our luggage off, use the restroom, and change while they were still cleaning 3 1/2 hours before our check-in time, so that we could get started with our day. WOW! They were kind, hospitable, and encouraged us to contact them directly if we had any questions or concerns. The castle was clean, comfortable, fun, and perfect for the kids to run around outside, and then settle in for movies and games in the basement at night. The castle is in a perfect location right in between Rapid City and the other attractions around Mount Rushmore. I wish I could give it six stars ❤️We had a great time!

Great House! Great Location!
The Castle House was amazing! Clean and well stocked for our group of eleven. The kids loved having a kids' room upstairs with books and three beds to fit them. The location cannot be beat! It is right off of 16 where many of the Black Hills attractions are located. Easy drive to Mount Rushmore, Hill City, Keystone, Crazy Horse, etc. I would recommend this house and look forward to staying again the future!

Fantastic stay at the castle!
So much I can say about this beautiful place! A group of 10 of us in 3 trucks hauling 3 trailers, carrying 6 motorcycles came from Indiana for the rally. The castle was ready a little earlier than check in so that started our trip out perfect after a long drive. When we arrived we were all in disbelief of how amazing the castle was! From the beauty of the outside to every single decor inside we all agreed it was one of the most awesome places any of us had ever stayed! It is so well stocked with all we needed. The house has so much room! None of us felt cramped on top of one another. The beds were super comfy! My husband & I had the master suite & I don’t even know how to describe that...the space, the bed, the bathroom...the bathtub was my fave! After coming back each day to riding 200-250 miles on our bike I couldn’t wait to soak in it! ;) We would all sit outside at night on the patio around the fire & laugh & have so much fun talking about our amazing day of adventure we had just had! We really enjoyed the patio & the space it has! The location of the castle was so nice! It’s literally in the center of all the sights to see including Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Iron Mountain, Spearfish Canyon, The Badlands, so so much more! The owners were phenomenal! They are super nice, very helpful, and the most awesome communicators! Very very fast at responding to any & all questions! This was my first trip to the area & I cannot wait to come back next year! I will absolutely be booking this castle again! Thanks so much Rich & Susan for sharing your most beautiful place! A little slice of wooded heaven outside Rapid City
We had 4 families together to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday and the castle was a perfect fit! The house is very clean and just big enough for all of us to have our own bed and plenty of space. We loved the big kitchen and spent most our time on the spacious patio! The peaceful surroundings and great location were perfect. Rich and Susan have considered everything someone would need on a vacation! The house was a perfect fit for us and we would definitely rent this again! Thank you!

Small Group Outing
Our small group of 5 couples rented the Castle for 4 nights. The house has a ton of room inside and out. The privacy on the back patio is awesome. We spent our free time playing corn hole and relaxing on the large patio. The location is close to everything. We would definitely stay again.

My kids loved this place!
Well stocked, well decorated, relatively close to the attractions but not in the midst of the chaos of being right by the attractions. Flume trail essentially ends in their back yard, and bear country USA, which my kid’s absolutely LOVED, is right down the road. More space than a family of 4 truly needs, but I’d love to come back with more extended family at some point.

This was the perfect place for our group of 10. The kids had their own room, which worked out perfect. We also liked the big table for family meals. The house was in a central location for all we wanted to do. The owners were very responsive to all of our questions. I would recommend this place to others and would return if in the area again.

Family Vacation in the Black Hills
The house was very spacious with multiple areas to sit and visit with a small or large group or by yourself including a beautiful backyard patio. We enjoyed the huge kitchen capable of accommodating several cooks at one time with loads of counter space. All bedrooms were great and having three bathrooms helped our family of 8 tremendously. It was relatively close to all the tourist destinations in southwestern South Dakota. We would stay there again.

Family Vacay 2020
This property lived up to its listing! Kathy was very attentive to our needs (we didn’t NEED anything as it was all here but she was available and just a text away) and the location is perfect- Right in the middle of all those must see attractions when you are in the Black Hills. We had a 2 yr old in our group so the location worked perfectly to be able to go “do” something in the morning, go back to the castle for lunch and a nap and then we could “do” something else in the afternoon/evening, no need for any BIG DAYS because of its location. The best part of our vacation and this home in the midst of 2020 and all that has brought, was the beautiful secluded large patio in the back to sit around and relax and visit with each other. A grill, a fire pit table, 2 tables with chairs and umbrellas for shade in the afternoon were all used quite a bit during our stay. Meals outside, reading, playing with toys on blankets and late night gab sessions were a daily occurrence. Inside the castle there were also many places to congregate to eat, play and enjoy each other’s company (but also places to get away from each other when that was needed). We would highly recommend this property!

Black Hills Adventure
We had a great time exploring the Black Hills. The out door patio was great. Kitchen, dining, and living rooms met our needs just fine. The house is located close to Rapid City, Hill City, Keystone, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Custer State Park. The house has five bedrooms, and would work great for families with several children. We had five mature adult couples. 3 of the bedrooms were small, with limited closet/storage space. Upstairs loft couple had to walk thru the master bedroom suite to access the master bath, or walk downstairs to the first floor bathroom.

Perfect House
We had my parents, siblings and our families in this house. The layout is spectacular offering every room with their own private space. The house is immaculate, well organized and offers all basic living necessities. Owner is so friendly and knowledgeable of area & responds in a few minutes any time we had questions. Great hiking trails starting right from the back yard. We loved the exploring. Large chalkboard in kitchen and dining room where we all played hangman throughout our stay. Only few minutes to Bear Country USA & Reptile Gardens. Nice new restaurant literally a minute away and only 10 -15 min max to Keystone. Perfect location for so many attractions yet still feels in country with gorgeous views from every window. Absolutely zero complaints. Best experience in a rented house and we have stayed at several in various states. This house provides so many inside and outside areas to maximize any group’s stay. Cleanliness and ease of everything was beyond all of expectations! We had ages 5-69 and all of us were very happy with this amazing house. Made our entire trip to have such a warm inviting place to come back too after our outings —& have even more wonderful adventures at this house.

Beyond awesome!
An incredible home for our family of 10! Great kitchen for cooking for a group! The dining room table was enormous and was fantastic for family meals and card games. All the bedrooms were incredibly comfortable and the privacy of the whole property was spectacular. Fire pit created an intimate area for appreciating the outdoor beauty of Rockerville! We had a great time and would recommend the home to anyone! Close to Rushmore too! We went during the day and night on the same day! Thanks for the super hospitality!

Stay Here!
The Castle is amazing. It is very well located for all the major South Dakota sites- we visited Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Hill City, Keystone, Belle Fourche, Deadwood, Lead, Wall all within just a short drive- day-trips from the Castle. So many lovely touches, great beds, nice linens, cute "just in case you forgot" basket of items. It was immaculately clean. Awesome tub in the master bath with lavender bubble bath provided!! The worst part was deciding which couple got the master bedroom with it's amazing 4 poster bed. Kathy was great to work with- her recommendation of the Filet Mignon dinner at the Alpine Inn in Hill City was spot on! Easy to find, surrounded by lovely pines- it was just so nice!!

Perfect central location and beautiful place!
The Castle was the perfect place to stay for our family getaway. It was the first time my siblings, their spouses, and my dad vacationed together. The Castle was ideal for space to gather together and each have our own bedroom for space apart! Our favorite spot was the back patio. Everyday we ate breakfast there and every evening we sat around the fire reminiscing the day's activities. What an amazing memory we will all have! The Castle was centrally located to all of the places on our itinerary. And we did a lot!! Took in 18 different activities and hiked right from the back yard of the Castle. Our experience with the owners was top notch. It was very easy to communicate and the extras that they provided were very much appreciated. My 92 year old father continues to talk about our adventure and this home helped make it complete.

Great family gathering spot
The castle was centrally located from all the main attractions. We visited Bear Country, Reptile Gardens, Mt. Rushmore, Keystone, and Hill City. All were within 10-20 minutes away which made it very nice for us. The house has a great back yard patio to have dinner and make a nice evening fire for the kids. There was plenty of bedrooms for everyone and Kathy had some board games and movies for extra entertaining. If you want a great place to stay, you will not be disappointed with this spot. Go across the street to the Gaslight Restaurant if you don't want to make a meal. Everything that we needed was at our finger tips. What a wonderful place to stay.

Superb!!
An awesome brand new property. Owners Kathy & Steve really now how to make their property comfortable, right down to the small details. One of the best experiences I have had with VRBO. Probably one of the best locations in the Black Hills to easily day trip to all the desired destinations. In a week we did them all and had a comfortable home to come back to. Even the kiddos had a great time and their own space to stretch. We will see you again out on the back patio!!!!!!
