I stayed in the condo right before this guest arrived and removed the living room curtains for cleaning at the beginning of my stay. My guests indicated that the view from the living room was even more spectacular without the curtains so I did not rehang them during my stay. However, the window treatments were in the condo, and I would have sent someone over to hang them if this guest informed me this was an issue for her. The window treatments are now back up in the living room. The door to the master bedroom does lock, and the en suite primary bathroom door does close and stays closed. In addition, there are window treatments in both bedrooms, and enough pillows for four guests. It is apparent that this guest had more than four in the unit, and they were sleeping in the living room.

I trust that when perspective renters read the other reviews, they will see that this review is an outlier. As I do with all guests, I immediately sent a thank you message when this guest booked on the night of May 24. The following morning, around 9:00 am, I sent a reminder about the need to bring linen, even though this information is in the listing. I also sent the name and website for a linen rental service on May 25. This guest simply did not read the information in the listing, and she did not open or read the messages on May 24 or May 25, even though Vrbo sent alerts to the guest each time I posted a message. Three days before her arrival, Vrbo sent the address for the property. As a result, she could have shared this information with the linen service three days before her arrival. Vrbo does a great job providing information and keeps a time and date stamp for every message in the guest’s inbox. When I noticed she had not opened the messages on Vrbo, I sent a text message to the guest. Moreover, I have a smart lock, and I receive a message each time the housekeepers enter to clean and lock the door when they leave. This rental was no exception. The door was locked until the guests opened it using the code I sent in advance of their arrival, with instructions on how to use the lock. The lock has a history feature and showed that they jammed the lock. However, the lock self corrects once manually turned from inside or when the correct code is reentered on the pad. I sent a new code because she was convinced the first code didn’t work. I found her explanations incredulous because I was looking at the lock history as she insisted the housekeepers left the door open. The housekeepers do an amazing job cleaning and always lock the door. The lock’s history showed that the housekeepers locked the door and has a big red lock on the app, which showed the door was locked. It is green when the lock is open. I provide the necessary information in advance, and I can only trust that the guests will read the information. Fortunately, this is usually the case.

We regret that this renter reported a less than favorable experience. However, the reviews by the other guests, the photographs, and the other aspects of the listing, more fairly and accurately reflect the experience of staying in our lovely home. The view and location are worthy of a 10. However, we provide quality furnishings and amenities to make the stay comfortable and memorable. Like many owners in Martha's Vineyard who use HomeAway, we are not actually on the island to welcome our guests in the manner of owners of hotels. However, we share our telephone numbers, and contact our guests prior to arrival, as we did with this renter, and intentionally price competitively for the quality, size, and amazing location of our home. The building, which is a prominent structure in Oak Bluffs, is centrally located, minutes from the ferry, directly in front of the famous Inkwell beach, and very easy to find. As soon as our guests enter the unit, they find the local property manager's telephone number, which is also displayed on the first level of the property in an information window, with instructions to contact in case of emergencies. The building and most units do not have air conditioning, because the units receive an amazing breeze from the ocean. However, prior to this renter's visit, we added a powerful state of the art air conditioning unit to the master bedroom, although we advertised that there was no air conditioning when she booked, and we did not charge an additional fee. In addition, we had recently added additional furnishings like a chaise lounge, Dyson fan, and other amenities, that the prior renters did not have, but still provided wonderful and favorable reviews, based on their experiences in our home.
