Thank you for your review. We’re so sorry we had to cancel. As you know the days leading up to your stay were powerful rain & wind storms across our region. Our neighbors tree fell, knocking down the PGE wires not only to our home but all nearby homes. On top of that, the weatherhead holding our electrical lines was knocked off and had to be repaired which required both city of Mill Valley building approval and PG&E reinstatement. That took extensive time and delay, and meant the home not only could not host anyone, but had no power. Sadly another reservation following yours had to be cancelled. We rely on these bookings to cover the cost of ownership of the property and continue to provide a true five star experience so this injures us and frustrates us just as much as any reservations we have to cancel. We also incurred exponentially high costs to upgrade the panel, return the weatherhead, eg. All of this was extremely unfortunate. There was no good way to host anyone during this time. Certainly your frustration is understandable but when it comes to acts of nature and things out of our control, we are also victims to such circumstances. We quite literally had no power for a week. In 6+ years of hosting this is the first and only time it’s ever happened. Again we deeply apologize.

Hi Anjali, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our cottage. We appreciate your feedback, both positive and negative. We understand that the lack of air conditioning may have been a disappointment, as it was a hot warmer w during your stay. However, we do list on our website that the cottage does not have air conditioning, but does have fans provided. We also mention that the cottage is located in a woodsy area, so it may be sheltered : shaded better than other homes in the region. It’s also not a common amenity in our region to have AC. But we’re going to look into adding a split unit. We apologize if this was not clear enough in our listing. We will try to make it more clear in the future. We’re sorry your stay wasn’t 5 star. It seemed issues began long before your arrival when you were upset about having to sign a rental agreement and providing proof of identification (so we could ensure against fraud which is common on Vrbo). Arriving to the cottage with our cleaning team still on site was an unfortunate issue that’s not happened previously, over 5 years to be exact. We apologized then and again now. Lastly, the thrill and excitement of booking a cottage in a redwood forest and having the privilege of seeing natural wildlife, like a deer, on property would leave most? all? guests amazed, awed and inspired. Instead you shared it made you feel scared and unsafe. We stand by our photos, our descriptions, but mostly the 50+ 5-star reviews here and the 190 5-star reviews (and no 3 star or worse reviews) on air bed and breakfast site. The old adage that you can’t please all of the people all of the time is true, but so far we’ve earned 5-stars by 239 out of 240 guests and is a mark we proudly beam about. This is a rare and remarkable cottage, the photos tell the story, as do the descriptions but we rely on the reviews of hundreds of others who understand and seek nature, idyllic, romantic, and hidden cottage getaways immersed in a redwood forest next to one of the most famous national parks in the USA (Muir Woods).
