Description

Journey to Mangue Seco, a tiny fisherman village of 200 inhabitants, famous for its natural beauty and deserted strips of sand. Cross a river in a canoe, ride over sand dunes in an off-road buggy, and grab a siesta in a hammock to finish off your tour of one Bahia’s most scenic areas.

Begin your day with a 137-mile (220-km) trip to the state’s northern border. Since the village is not accessible by road, hop in a traditional boat and cruise through the mangrove forests of the Real River. Arrive on the other side and start preparing for an adventurous, adrenaline-packed 40-minute buggy ride (not included) on towering dunes flanking pristine beaches. Along the way, take breaks to snap photos of the beautiful landscapes.

Cool off in the refreshing waters of the South Atlantic or consider grabbing lunch at one of the local restaurants. Afterward, relax in a comfortable hammock, swaying in the breeze while listening to the incomparable sound of crashing waves.

Your last stop is at Tieta’s House, the filming location of a popular Brazilian soap opera based on a novel written by Jorge Amado. After that, passengers return to the vehicle which will take them back to their hotels.

Our experience on this excursion was terrible. Van was 35 minutes late for our 6am pick up, and we were the first in the van. English guide we selected had called in sick and we had a guide who spoke zero English. This added to the chaos. We then spent 3.5 hours in a cramped van with 2 bathroom breaks (there was no water in the van) as we made our way to the destination and stopped at other hotels to fill the van. We found out that the dune buggy ride that says is included in the trip is actually an additional cost we had to pay for on the spot ($50 Reals for each of us). Once we arrived at Mangue Seco, we were only there for about 2.5 hours before it was time to go back... and it took 4 hours to go back. The description said ice cream was provided, it was not. It was also stated in the Grayline ad on Expedia that there would be a “canoe ride through the mangrove forests of Real". This did not happen either. 8 hours travelling for 2.5 hours on a mediocre beach and dune buggy ride.
