Live the “Celebrity Life” while in San Francisco!
My husband is born and raised in San Francisco, and in past trips we would drive down Marina Blvd to look at the jewel boxes of homes that sit right across the marina and park. At night, these spectacular homes would be lit and everyone who drives by would wonder in envy at the lucky people that get to live here. We were fortunate enough to rent the Marina Villa and live that luxurious lifestyle over Christmas. Normally, my husband and I rent a 5-star hotel on our trips, but this past trip included our 3 younger children and thus called for more room. The spacious home allowed for us to come together for meals in the large, and well appointed and modern eat-in kitchen, and then retreat to quiet spaces throughout the home. When the kids would head up to the 3rd level to watch Apple TV, my husband and I felt alone - sitting and watching the busy San Franciscans below from our large bayfront window perch. I have to admit is was fun to have passers by look up at us while we enjoyed our evening cocktail! The elegant 3-story home was an Italian Villa set in the heart of the city. Antique European furniture, a locally curated art collection and beautiful wall murals “ trompe l'oeil“ graced the hand-plastered walls. My husband knew the history of these homes and was impressed that through being rebuilt due to past earthquakes, they kept all the original details like the large, wavy glass windows - yet updated the kitchen and bath with marble and details that made it comfortable and in keeping with the old architecture. The location cannot be beat. Our family took daily walks to the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marina across the street. For a heavier workout, you can walk all the way to Sutro Baths (about 10 miles round trip) from here along well maintained and safe trails for youngsters alike. You avoid the downtown traffic from here so we easily drove to museums and Fisherman’s Wharf. You can Uber anywhere in about 10-15 minutes. And we loved that Chesnut St was a few blocks away with upscale local, organic small eateries, markets and posh bars and shops. Our family really enjoyed the authentically curated experience that owners Marjorie and Larry provide their guests. They are wonderful hosts - attentive and accommodating. We are now spoiled and wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else in San Francisco!
