Buyer Beware
VRBO REVIEW
We are past VRBO owners for over 4 years. We have over the past 15 years also rented places through VRBO as guests. We have never practiced nor experienced the deceit and poor conditions in rentals that befell us during the rental of "203 Ballena". We were not given the condo we rented for a premium price, but were sent to a unit 3/4 the size and without key amenities advertised for the unit we intended to and were lead to believe that we were paying for.
Among the missing amenities were 1000 Sq. Ft. of space and approximately 15 ft. of balcony; washer and dryer; one instead of two master beds advertised; ocean view from the bedroom; and full separate kitchen. Also, the following items we have come to expect universally in vacation rentals were missing: Kleenex, extra rolls of toilet paper (only one roll of the thinnest ply for a five day rental), no shampoo. The drawers and cabinets of the minimal kitchenette were disorganized and dirty, not to mention in poor condition. The hot water in the shower was almost non-existent, since it took so long to get warm and was of such small volume that we were forced to double up to escape having cold showers.
The only good features of the small unit were that the pool and ocean views from the patio were beautiful and the bed pillows were comfy. That was particularly good because one was required to lie abed in order to watch the (only) large wall mounted tv in the bedroom.
Upon discovery of the "bait and switch" of the smaller unit than the one we bought and paid for, and before we checked out I sent our request to the manager, for a refund of the amount we overpaid.
She acknowledged that they owed us a refund and have claimed that he refund has been initiated. However it is now over two weeks since we checked out and no refund has been credited to our account.
Needless to say this whole ordeal has been a disappointment, both in the fact that we were not given the deluxe unit that was advertised and paid for, and in the needless hassle of repeated requests for the promised refund as well as return of our damage deposit that was promised but not yet received.
Renting from manager for our escape to cabo has been instead an escape from relaxation and enjoyment. Buyer beware.
