Cottage on the Farm

Welcome to The Cottage on the Farm. Our Cottage is a split of our 320 year old Farmhouse with two private entrances for guests to use.

The Cottage is set over two floors comprising of a living room with decorative sandstone fireplace and kitchen downstairs. The staircase leads up to the bedroom with a double bed and small single bed creating an open plan family room with en suite.

Outside in the garden guests have the choice of two private seating area's to choose from.

please note that all dogs must be payed for upon booking and are not to be left unattended in the cottage or garden at anytime.

Amenities: Gas central heating. Electric oven and hob, washing machine, microwave, Airfryer, fridge freezer, TV with Freeview and built in dvd player, selection of books and dvds. Bed linen and towels included in your stay. Ample private parking. country cottage garden, including garden furniture and BBQ. Sorry, no smoking inside the cottage. Local shop 1.5 miles, real ale pub 1 mile.

The Cottage does contain traditional low beams (duck or grouse) and some small steps.

This is a working farm so machinery may be in use during your stay.

Region: Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water Lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Village: Situated a short 5 minute drive or a 25 minute walk downhill is the attractive village of Bassenthwaite. This charming settlement retains its traditional rural feel and boasts a stream which winds through the outskirts of the village in addition to whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a well-maintained green and a real ale inn, full of character. Bassenthwaite Lake offers rolling hillside scenery and remains one of the most picturesque places in England.

Mirehouse - Historic house and gardens set on the Lake shore.
The Lake District Wildlife Park.
The Lakes Distillery producing its own famous local gin and whisky.
Dodd Wood.

Most of the attractions of the wider region are within easy driving distance whilst the quieter Northern Fells are right on your doorstep.

The towns of Cockermouth and Keswick are close by and both host weekly markets and a good range of other amenities.

If you are looking for a quiet and out of the way place to stay then this is definitely it! Part of the old farm house I guess, the cottage is very well appointed even to an air fryer. There is also a lovely garden. Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay, hopefully longer next time, we will returnā€¦..

My son and I walked locally on the night we arrived but ventured further the next day to climb Helvellyn. We live in the States now, and had too return but we miss the Lakes!

Everything as described. Cottage was perfect, extremely cosy and peaceful. Well equipped in side which suited our short break perfectly. Matt the host was very welcoming and available if you would need anything. For sure we will be returning.

If you like rural and isolated this is for you it's out the way but still close to the towns plenty of walks the property had wonderful views dogs are welcome the owner was so nice would recommend

The cottage is very attractive - it is cosy, spacious and welcoming. The views from the cottage are also stunning. There's plenty of scenic areas nearby the cottage that are great to discover and walk around. It's also an ideal base for visits to the numerous towns and attractions within the Lakes. The hosts are friendly and helpful as well.

It really IS a working farm with real hard working people there who care.Matthew recieved some pygmy goats while we were there and it was fun to see them. The place was thoughtfully decorated and spacious. If you are very tall you need to be carefull here. It is in an old stone structure that has some recent modern upgrades. Very warm and cozy. A 5 minute walk from the front door gets you a million dollar view. TONs of great hiking and mountain biking options nearby. We would gladly stay here again. ssdfsdf

We hadden een heel fijn verblijf. Het huis heeft alles wat je nodig hebt en een fijne tuin. We hadden prachtig weer. Sā€™avonds koelde het af, maar het huis is gelukkig goed verwarmd. Het ligt bij een schapenboerderij en aan een mooie wandelroute naar de bergtoppen er achter.

Alojamiento en una ubicaciĆ³n muy buena en la zona de los lagos cerca de Keswick. En cuanto a la casa, decir que es necesario mejorar muchas cosas para que la estancia sea cĆ³moda y placentera, empezando como punto principal por la limpieza. En nuestro caso, no estuvimos del todo agusto con esto. Las dimensiones del alojamiento son algo pequeƱas pero suficiente para 2, 3 personas como mucho.

We stayed here last year and came back for this summer also. Itā€™s a peaceful and beautiful location, the cottage is clean and has all you need. A good couple of nights sleep after dog walks around the lake was a great end to our trip up north šŸ˜Š 5* thank you

We stayed in the cottage for 12 nights. It was very rustic and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped with most things you need for a holiday and everything was in perfect working order. We loved the farm noises and sheep bleating and the owner/farmer was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. He even provided a shed where we could store our bicycles that we brought along. We heartily recommend this venue.
